Uniting of young and old colonies

| Order number: | C 9957 |
| Description: | At the end of the summer the old honey-bee colonies -the bee colonies which did not originate from shook swarm formation in the course of the current year - are split, and shook swarms are formed from them. The young colonies were newly established by means of shook swarm formation in early summer of the current year, and at that time treated for varroatosis. In a similar manner, the shook swarms formed from the old colonies are now also treated for varroatosis. Subsequently, the old colonies, which are very nearly varroa-free are united with young colonies. In the clip a woman beekeeper demonstrates the procedure for unification of young and old colonies: The old colonies, which are still in shook swarm boxes, are shaken into empty frames (supers), which are then placed on the hives containing the young colonies.
