PHOTONS
Photons is a multidisciplinary research network on the theme of photography. It was created in 1996 and atempts at promoting research activities on the various aspects of the local production and consumption of photographic images in Africa, Asia, Latin-America etc. General objectives are to identify, locate and put into contact all people engaged in this field (scholars, teachers, students, museum curators, practioners) as well as to collect and circulate relevant infomration on publications, conderences, films, exhibits, research reports, archives, funding and problems of conversation. These informations are circulated in the form of an annual Newsletter. Since february 1999, the second edtiiton of Photons (photons No. 2 - Winnter 1999) is available on-line.

The working group for Visual Anthropology is part of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Völkerkunde. The group meets normally twice a year. In spring time there is a film festival either in Freibug or in Göttingen, in autum a symposia takes place in one of the centers of Visual Anthropology in Germany.

Savan is there for photographers, film- and videomakers, documentarists, scientis, museum employees, researchers, information officers, teachers, students and anyone else who is interested in culture and communications.Savan organizes the annual festival Image by Image in which recent photographers, films as well as videoproductions are shown. Savan stimulates and supports the making of anthropological and ethnographic documentaries and photographic series to be used by museums and broadcast companies. Savan maintains contacts with affiliated institutions at home and abroad.

NAFA Nordic Anthropological Film Association
The Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA) is an organization for cooperation within the field of visual anthropology which has been active since the early seventies. The Institutional membership is primarily made up of Social Anthropological institutions and ethnographic museums in the nordic countries, plus several regional colleges and media schools. NAFA also has a growing number of individual members in the north and around the world. NAFA acts as a network of anthropological researchers, film makers and academic institutions. As an information service to members, the newsletter NAFA-network is sent out 6-8 times a year, giving news on developments in visual anthropology in (and outside of) the nordic countries. NAFA-network is available in several formats: as e- mail, FAX (for those who don t have network access), or as printed copy sent by post (for those who have neither e-mail nor fax)
